Stories of haunted houses are fascinating as long is it is not one of us who has had the experience of living in one or living across one. Many times when there is a complaint about a house being haunted, the stories fall flat. The scary noises in the night or the fluctuating light often turn out to be mice or bad wiring but sometimes a house, a palace or a cabin often turn out to be haunted. This is the story of one such place.
Growing across a haunted house can be as traumatic as living in one, especially for a child. Children are impressionable and get easily scared. That is one reason why most children do not like sleeping alone in the dark. It is normal for the children to be scared of unknown shadows but in some cases, those shadows behave abnormally.
This person who is a grown up now lived not so far away from this cabin in the woods, the most bizarre cabin. he grew up there and sleeplessly spent every night of his childhood in the fear of being taken away by the beings in the cabin. His childhood is scarred by the noises, the light, the very existence of the cabin. What happened there?
The boy was told by his parents to not go to the other side of the woods... EVER. But curiosity always gets the better of the cat or a child. Most children are more intrigued to do what they are specifically told not to do. So the boy, obviously curious as to what was on the other side of the woods, paid a visit... but never again.
One day, during the daytime, when the boy's mother was taking a nap, he sneaked out to go to the cabin his mother had specifically prohibited him to go to. When he crossed his sides of the woods and got closer to the cabin the air seemed to become colder somehow. He wanted to turn around but his curiosity got the better of him.
He wanted to boast to his friends that he went to THE cabin all alone when all kids were told specifically not to. Sweating a little now, he went closer to the cabin which seemed inhabited. He thought it was a good sign, he could go in, look around and quickly get back to his place. But suddenly something happened that made him stop in his tracks.
While the boy, with shivering legs, mustering all the courage in his little body was making his way towards the door, he heard it creak and he stopped dead in his tracks. The door started creaking loudly as if moving in slow motion, it was just like those horror movies he watched with his dad but it was coming alive!
While the door took forever to creek open, adrenaline was rushing through the body of this little boy- fight or flight? Obviously, if the rumors were true, he was as good as dead but he could not muster the courage to also run away. Meanwhile, the door was almost completely open now. But there was something strange, James could not see, but he could tell.
The door stood wide open in front of the boy now and he stood just a few feet away from it, frozen. To his bewilderment the doorway was empty, no one stood there and there was just darkness beyond. The boy stood rooted in his place but then something happened that made him run for his life.
The boy did not have the time to make any decision. A voice of a glass shattering came from inside the cabin with no apparent source. He let out a shriek that would have numbed the ears of any listener if there was any, turned around and ran, ran for his life. He came back before his mom woke up and never told her what happened that day. He kept the secret to himself.
He grew up across that cabin, much against his wishes. He did not dare to go anywhere near the cabin territory ever again until recently. A grown man now, it was time for James (name changed) to leave his current place of residence and determined to unveil the secret of the haunted cabin, he decided to go there one last time.
Part of growing up is facing one's fears. James took it too literally and landed himself in a life-threatening situation. He had no clue what he was going to find there. He never saw anyone in the doorway during his last visit all those years ago. Was the place really haunted like it was rumored or was it something else? But WHAT?
To go on his little adventure James took a camera with him, to record all that he saw in and outside cabin, all the pictures ahead have been clicked by him and they are, to say the least- shocking. Many discoveries that James made at this dangerous adventure of his are spine chilling.
This is the first view of the cabin in the woods. Reaching it in itself is a big task as it lies across the river and is almost completely shrouded by the tree, camouflaging with the dry environment. James captured every step of this small journey from his house to the cabin and each step reveals awe-inspiring details.
James did not remember the path he took as a kid but he certainly does remember watching these steps. This time he was very alert of his way to the cabin. Someone had built a sort of a stairway to the cabin to make the path easy because walking on a path of dry leaves on an inclined plane had been tricky. This seemed to suggest that the cabin was not abandoned always, someone stayed there, but who?
James wanted to capture the eerie feel of the house from every angle and we have got to give it to him, he nailed it. But it did not require much effort on his part either. The cabin reeks eerie. No pictures, however, could get a clear view of the cabin. It was time to go closer and see what this place of horror held.
His curiosity waned when he took one look at the outside of the basement. This was one place of the cabin that he dare not explore. Apart from the fact that there was hardly any light in the cabin, the idea of the basement in a secluded place like this did not seem appealing to James. So he let it go, but he was about to make some mind-numbing discoveries.
The first feeling that James had when he reached the cabin was as if he was the only person there, all along. The cabin always had a rustic look but now, it just appeared long abandoned. He was the only human there, that is to say. Apart from the exterior of the cabin, he noticed this water pump which looked completely dry.
The question was, how long had it been out of use?
Since James had been to the haunted cabin just once and even then he could not enter it, he did not know how the back side of the place looked like. Well, when he saw it for the first time, it was not a pleasant sight. The windows did not have glasses and the wood was decaying. The cabin was literally in a state of decay. But that was not the only thing that he found on the back side.
Upon reaching the back side of the cabin, James, to his amazement found out that it was not the only cabin. It was like entering a horror show and finding out that each house is a haunted place- with no escape. Each cabin was absolutely similar to the other and each seemed to be decaying with no sign of human life. Did James stumble upon something much greater than a ghost place?
If you do not believe in supernatural powers, you would try to find out a logical explanation for these shattered windows- that some kids might have broken these glasses while playing, or it might be the wind or simply decay. But kids were prohibited to go anywhere near this place and wind can take out complete glasses and can years really erode glass like this? Things just got weirder.
The decay of the cabin is exemplified by the moss-covered roofs, moss covered everything actually. If ever there were residents here, they did not bother to keep the place clean. And several layers of moss show that the cabin has been decaying for a long time now. What happened here? And why was this place abandoned?
The cabin also had an attic, whose windows again, were shattered, almost nonexistent. He captured it from the outside, but if all those horror movies are true it might not have been a good idea for him to be going inside to explore it or satiate his curiosity to find out if there was someone or something there.
James wanted to avoid entering the cabin as long as he could help it. He wanted to secure his grounds, look out for all the exit points in case he needed to. Even though it is bright outside, it seems like this light is unable to penetrate the darkness inside the cabin. It is pitch black in there but the man does go inside, he probably should not have.
Now that James found that there was more than one horror cabin, his search area and consequently his alertness increased. He had an eerie feeling that someone was watching him. He was conscious of every step he took. When he was about to enter one of the cabins, he found his way blocked by this wheelbarrow. Completely rusted and fixed to the ground, James could not understand its purpose. Not before he entered the cabin.
The inside of the cabin was more horrifying than the outside. Destruction seemed to persist everywhere. Rubble, roof, poles, all smashed and rusted rose in a mountain. It was as if a mini-war happened here. Who lived here? Were they killed? Or did they escape? There were too many questions running inside James' mind and there were no answers. The mysteries only intensified.
In all the rubble, James stumbled upon a sign which somewhat solved some of his doubts but raised many others. He found a plank which read- "Sunkist Oranges". Did the resident here sell oranges or did they get them in crates to eat? But if they sold oranges, where did they grow them? There are no orange trees in the wood or any farm nearby? This did not make sense.
When James took cautious steps inside the house, to his horror he found some powdered chemicals spilled on a table. He was smart enough to not touch them. They could have been acidic, could have been poisonous, could have been anything really. This made one thing clear, there were humans here, what they did and why they were hiding all these years was not clear yet.
One of the most interesting finds in the cabin was this fridge. We seriously do not know if this even qualifies to be called a fridge but for the lack of a better term, we will just use that. The insides look nothing like the usual fridge. Words fall short in my vocabulary to describe the contents of this fridge. Enough is to safely assume that it was used for more than just freezing food.
This has to be one of the creepiest pictures James captured. We are hoping that this would be old burnt coffee but it could also be burnt dried blood. A cup upside down on charred blood... I have come across a few things as sinister as this. Was the blood inside the cup and then spilled? Whose blood was it? Animal? Human? And why would someone keep blood inside a cup?
This certainly does not qualify as a wheel of fortune. This wheel with no apparent attachment only seemed to raise more. What vehicle or equipment was this wheel a part of? James tried to lift it too, but failed and only managed to get his clothes rusted and dusty. A wheel, fixed in a door. What could this be?
There are far too many wheels in this cabin for a place where there is no vehicle or a piece of plowing equipment or something like that. This could only be a stove or so we think. What the wheels are for, we still do not have a clue. What caught James' eye was what was above the stove.
Painting inside a small rotting cabin seems Gothic, doesn't it? But the whole cabin gives goth feels, the painting just intensifies the aesthetics. In the background, we can see a couple of plastic chairs. James could not find a bed or a mattress inside the cabin. Where did the residents even sleep? Did they even sleep at night?
As baffled as James was to not find a sleeping place in the cabin, he was equally relieved to find a toilet in the cabin. It cannot be called a bathroom because, well... there hardly seems to be enough space to stand inside, let along bathe. Even though it appears normal, this picture seems to have something dark about it... is the entire aura of the cabin?
Another picture that confirms human presence is this. The number of utensils seems to suggest that there was more than one person living here. It also suggests, if they left, they did that in quite a hurry. IF THEY LEFT. We are scared to even mention the other possibilities.
The cabin sported, what looked like a light bulb but James could not find any switch in the cabin. It seemed in a delicate condition anyway, as if it would fall down even if touched. Is this an oil lamp? How did the residents of this cabin even survive here? Did something terrible happen to them? James shuddered at the possibility.
If there is a cup full of dried blood in this cabin, then you should not be surprised that there is also poison inside the house. Gum Turpentine is a kind of oil made of pine tree sap and if it is consumed it acts as a poison. Why could not the residents use normal oil? Why something that can also be used as a poison? Whoever was in here, were not usual, normal people.
As we mentioned, behind the cabin, he found others which were in a similar condition to the one he had seen in his childhood, if anything, they were in worse condition. Was this a settlement? Sort of a close community of people who did not linger about or who no one saw? Or was this an establishment of something more sinister?
The roof of this particular cabin caved in and the attic seems to have vanished completely, leaving the shattered windows to give the transparent view of the woods. It is hard to say if someone broke the roof or smashed it in. Out of all the cabins, only this one has its roof caved in. Why? James could not find out.
The dried blood and the poison were enough to ring the final alert bell in James' head and he did not want to see what other secrets the other cabins held. Quickly he made his way out but not without taking some final snapshots. This hook usually found outside gothic palaces has a torch attached to it, for light. This hook unsurprisingly has no such purpose. Then what was the purpose of this hook here? Like all other things in this cabin, it is a mystery.
This cabin and the neighborhood cabins and their story and truth are shrouded in mystery. Were they all collectively abandoned? Or did something happen in one of these cabins that made the others leave? Was something illegal happening here? What were all those noises that disturbed James in the night as a kid? I guess James or we would never have these answers.
If not solve the mystery of the horror cabin, James was able to achieve one thing. He faced his childhood fear of the cabin and dared to explore it. He came across some dark stuff in there and it is sure to have messed his mind up, it sure messed up ours- but the fact that he took the step makes us respect him more.
We are just glad he came out physically unharmed. We hope he got some closure, turns out that it was not the ghosts that haunted this place but some shady stuff done by humans.
