This incident occurred in 1928 when the owner of Max, a Manhattan police dog, slept with a cigarette in his mouth. He was too asleep to realize that the burning cigarette had turned into flame. The clothes surrounding the owner caught fire and surprisingly he did not wake up. He would have died if not for his loyal dog. Max first dragged those burning dress aside and kept on barking until it caught someone’s attention.
