Kids are innocent and weakness of every parent. No parent ever wants anything bad to even come close to their kids but sometimes nobody can stop bad things from happening. This is the story of a little boy whose little adventure took him away from his family on the Halloween evening. This story is one example of the fact that how easily a little one can get distracted. Later, when everything started becoming clear, the parents didn't know how to react.
It was last year's Halloween and every other family was excited about the holiday that was right outside the door. This incident took place in Ontario, New York in the front yard of a house. Kids were home that morning and so far it was like every other day. Mother was working according to her strict routine and Father was going to leave for his office anytime. With this day, a chain of strange events was going to start.
Yes, Halloween is all about candies and parties and so this Ontario family too had their plans for the day. Why wouldn't there be plans anyway? After all, with Halloween, the holiday season starts feeling close. It's like a beginning of the good relaxing days with the one we love. Be it trick or treat or be it costume parties, everything about this day is joyful. Well, there's one more aspect related to this day; the actual cause of all this excitement.
People dressed up in costumes of their favorite scary character is one fantastic idea for those who love to mess around a little. Kids get real excited or afraid of this day and they have their valid reasons. As American Literature always had a part in using this day for various fictional horror dramas, no wonder people can be scared of this day too. But the little boy we are going to tell you about was curious enough to keep his teeny-tiny fears aside.
Not scared of anything at all, this boy was up to play with his sister and other society friends outside. The boy was excited to show off his new present to them; a mini iPod. An adult can never have an idea about how big a deal it can be for a 5 or 6 years old until the smile on his face and his friends are seen. Well, that was a holiday and that was enough to make it a wonderful day for that group of friends. And their new presents were like a cherry on the cake. However, neither the day nor the adventure was over yet...
After playing for hours with their brand new presents, it was time to go back home and get ready for the trick or treat part. The boy and his sister were discussing their costumes all along the way. They were planning a funny prank to scare their mother and came up with an idea which was soon to twist their plans for that evening.
This brother and sister duo decided that only one of them will show up on the door, worried and tell their mother that the other one is badly hurt. Well, pranks like these can scare any parent, right? But these kids were too small to understand this, plus they were only looking at the fun part behind it. They were not going to stretch it for too long and the truth will be right there outside the main door hiding behind the front yard's wall.
Everything was planned and now the question was, who'll go first? This question is quite obvious and always the younger one has to go first, that's one of the perks of being an elder sibling. So, the girl would go to the mother and make up the story while the boy will hide behind the front yard's door right next to the door. But this whole "prank thing" was soon to take a turn when something distracts the little boy.
The girl walked towards the door and the boy waited outside. He was excited to scare his mother, with eyes continuously looking at the door. That's when something strange caught his eye. He knew his home was decorated with all the Halloween stuff, specially made at home by his mother. But something quite didn't fit in there.
The mother rushed towards the nearby park and the daughter was right behind her. To her surprise, her brother wasn't there! She told him to wait right there, yet he didn't. Seeing her mother worried, she was now scared that this will not be ending nicely. She couldn't see him anywhere and she didn't know what answer will she give to her mother when she asks.
Seeing her mother worried, the girl finally told her their original idea of a prank. Obviously her mother was angry and disappointed, moreover, she was worried to hell about her son. Where did he go? What was it that distracted him? Was he even safe? What was going on?
With no way to understand what was going on, she ran to check at his friend's home. He must be somewhere here and there but he wasn't. She knew her son wasn't irresponsible, but he just planned all this prank thing at first. Sadly, the boy was nowhere to be found. Seeing the situation running out of her hands, she called for help.
She called her husband right away and one neighbor called the cops. Suddenly, the festive environment vanished and everyone was worried about the little boy. The cops arrived and so did the boy's father. This story was yet to take quite a few turns to surprise all.
His father was already on his way to home when he received the call. The nearest cops car reached on the spot, ie, the park in 10 minutes. In the midst of all this hassle, they couldn't quite think of it differently. But the reason behind the little boy going missing was hiding in their backyard. What was this reason? And how can anything in their backyard be the reason behind his going missing? The answer will certainly shock you to the spines.
Hoping that his son might return home, his father asked the mother to take their daughter home. Within 15minutes, things changed completely, returning home, the mother recalled how her son helped her in decorating the home. He has always been interested in such things and when it's about Halloween, his second favorite day, Christmas obviously being the first.
Mother sat on the sofa, waiting for her son to return, and the daughter went upstairs to her room. The little girl saw something moving in the backyard it was just a shadow. She thought it was her brother and called his name aloud but there was no response. She was angry about why he wasn't listening to her and why did he not work according to the plan. But was it even her brother? If it was her brother then why didn't he respond at once?
The little girl decided to find her brother and get to the bottom of all this. She took out her mini torch from the drawer and ran outside. She knew something was off as she clearly remembered telling him to stay right there behind the front yard's wall. With a lot of questions in her mind, she ran straight towards the door. Not at all afraid of the consequences or too small to think of the consequences we must say.
While on one side the mother was waiting for her son, her daughter too took off from the back door of the house and was on her little Halloween adventure. She noticing her brother's iPod at the corner of the back door that he was showing off to his friends a few hours back. This meant he came there after she last saw him. Also, she noticed the back door open.
She gave it a thought whether she should get out of the back door or not as her mother gave them strict instructions on not getting out in that lane all alone as it is usually empty. But then she was quite sure that her notorious elder brother was right there. When everyone else was looking for him near the park, his younger sister thought this area should be covered by her.
She got out of the back door in the narrow lane. She walked for a minute or so and saw a shadow behind a parked bike. She ran towards it and screamed his name. When she reached there, she knew the reason behind all this.
It happened when the boy was hiding behind the front wall as per the plan that he saw something that wasn't supposed to be there. This was enough to raise the little boy's curiosity and make him forget about the prank. He walked in the yard towards the garage, to check on what according to him shouldn't be there. The kid directly walked on the side of the house while his mother and sister ran out to check on him.
As we told you that the boy helped his mother in decorating the house, he knew very well, that they kept three different sized pumpkins as the Halloween symbol there. What caught his interest was the fact that now he could see four pumpkins. How could that be? Who kept it?
When the boy reached there, the pumpkin started moving, this was enough to scare the little one. A moving pumpkin on Halloween evening can scare the hell out of anyone and this was just a kid. As a matter of fact, it wasn't a pumpkin at all. If it wasn't pumpkin, then what was it?
It was a typical orange cat. The boy who loved animals tried to pick it up when the cat slowly moved towards the outside and got out of the yard. This cat couldn't really walk as other cats can. The boy followed the cat and finally got hold of it near the parked bike. He could not understand the reason behind why this cat was hiding its paws. The moment he saw his sister, he knew he was in trouble big time.
When he went home with the cat and his sister, his mother took a breath of relief and finally it was time for punishment to give the kids a lesson. The boy had an idea of the trouble he put his parents into by disappearing like that. They were told that there's no party for them this Halloween. Also, the mother had to take this cat to someone who could help her.
It was a big cat, in a poor condition. They didn't know where did it come from. Was it a stray cat, or was it abandoned by its owners, or was it lost? They took it to the Lollypop Farm, at the Humane Society of Rochester. The place is full of rescue specialists. They told the family that this cat was around 10 years old and the little boy named it, Buster.
Buster, the big orange cat was hiding his paws underneath his body. He was not ready to allow anyone else close to him other than the little boy. The experts asked the boy's parent to let him be in the room while they closely check Buster's paws. The idea behind it was to win the big cat's trust without hurting him.
The boy who grew a strong bond with the cat too wanted to get Buster out of his pain. In no time Buster got friendly with the vets at the Humane Society of Rochester. Everyone wanted to know what was exactly wrong with this ginger cat.
Buster's paws were deeply injured and needed immediate treatment. And the vets were right when they said that something about Buster was unusual. Buster was lucky to be taken to the lollypop farm as his situation was actually critical.
It is an open-admission animal shelter, that takes in all animal species on any date. They take care of all size of animals from hamsters and iguanas to horses and goats. Buster's condition was a challenge as the poor boy has been suffering from pain for over years.
When vets evaluated Buster, the poor cat remained calm. “Buster was suffering from plasmacytic pododermatitis – a condition that left his front paws raw and made walking very painful,” a spokesperson told in an interview.
They started Buster's treatment. He was scheduled for spas on daily basis for a couple of weeks. The experts cleaned his paws and dressed them regularly. They knew it will cause more pain to the huge cat and so they took more care of Buster.
Buster who never seemed to be freaking out after all the treatments were finding comfort with his caregivers. In fact, he used to purr all the time whenever his caregiver dressed his paws. Every time his bandages were removed, Buster tried to get rid of it but the team was quite dedicated to fixing the big cat.
Lollypop Farm mentioned on their Facebook page that Buster, the cat is “gentle and affectionate, and definitely a purrer. His paws are healing very nicely.” His front paws were covered with a pair of mittens that protected his paws and also helped in recovering sooner.
“At this point in his healing process, Buster no longer had to wear his mittens constantly. He was wearing a cone so that he didn’t lick or bite his paws,” told the spokesperson. Animals behave weirdly when the cone of shame is used on them but Buster was surprising everyone with the level of patience.
The only thing that disturbed the poor cat was that these mittens caused him so much irritation all the time. As the spokesperson explained, “Buster did have a habit of removing his mittens, probably because his paws were itchy!”
At last, the big day was here. It was time to remove Buster's cone and see how he'll react to it. The whole team wanted to see how Buster will react feeling completely normal after so long. They even informed the little boy and his mother who at first brought him to the foster care center.
After his cone was taken off, Buster used to run around the Lollypop farm as if the place belonged to him. The team said, “His paws are feeling SO much better, and soon, he will be ready to find a family. He celebrated his cone coming off by getting a tuna treat, and lots and lots of pets from our staff.”
The ginger man not only received the attention of the caregivers but also of a large number of people who read the post related to him and like Buster's photos on Facebook. He was popular with the name of Halloween cat, and we don't have to share why so...
Within a period of two months, there was an incredible change in Buster's behavior since the day he arrived at the Lollypop Farm. The big guy who didn't allow anyone to touch him other than the little boy who found him was now one of the friendliest cats in there.
Two months after Buster arrived at the Lollypop Farm, he was adopted and taken to his forever home. Nowadays he loves to grab the attention of his owners instead of running away from humans. And the boy who found him on that Halloween evening also learned his lesson of not playing pranks and staying out of the house late.
