Nature holds the power to destroy the entire human race of this planet yet it's generous enough to let us exploit it. Isn't that the most beautiful and selfless gesture? On the other hand, humans try their level best to be as creative as possible. Well, many times the results look weirder rather creative.
Every picture has its back story and when you'll read through these stories, your curious mind will ask a lot of questions for sure. To prove our point we've brought you a list of pictures that will either make you look twice or close your eyes and click next. So, be prepared as going further will take you on a ride full of emotional ups and downs... Definitely, some of these are filtered and edited to some extent as this collection is made through world wide web.
Warning: Some of the pictures can be amusing while others can be disheartening.
In 1989, Jean Guichard clicked this incredible image of a lighthouse nearly covered by a giant wave. The lighthouse located on the northwestern coast of France is named as Phares dans la Tempete, la Jument, the term itself means “lighthouse in a storm.” Surprisingly, the photograph also shows Theodore Malgorne, the lighthouse keeper checking out the giant wave as we check out the weather. However, the true story behind it is that Theodore was actually waiting to be rescued along with a group of his friends who were inside the lighthouse.
Here's a good to know information: The people in the lighthouse survived the powerful waves and the structure itself is still standing straight in the middle of the ocean.
From about 30 years from now, a lady was camping alone in the woods when she heard some weird noises right outside her camp. She was terrified by the thought that it can be a bear. Out of curiosity, she grabbed her camera and clicked a picture before going out of her camp.
Wait, aren't raccoons supposed to be solitary animals? But then there's no explanation to this late night party that these raccoons were up to. Campers are usually warned to protect their food as raccoons are omnivores and opportunistic eaters who prefer to work at late nights.
In 1989, this girl got her photo clicked with a tornado in the background. Reports suggest her name is Audra Thomas and she is a resident of Beaver City, Nebraska. She poses calmly when an F-1 tornado looks like it is right behind her. However, there's a gap of around 1 mile in between.
The surprising fact about this picture is that the person who clicked her photo is her mother, Marrilee. Neither our team nor the National Weather Service recommends this fervor for taking photos as with the tornados you never know which direction it might turn to.
This little piggy made his way out of the running truck. This guy seemed to know the right way to utilize the overcrowded livestock truck to get freed from the slaughterhouse. All we hope for is that this guy was aware of the trick of tucking and rolling. Otherwise what might have happened to him must be drastic.
In 1908, the photo of the then President Theodore Roosevelt crossing the river sitting on a moose was quite popular. Before we take it any further, it is necessary for you to note that this photo is fake! It was made as a political ad that turned into a big joke. Moose was the political mascot of the opposition party. In reality, it is the outcome of two photographs: one is Pres. Roosevelt sitting on a horse and other of a moose crossing a river.
Obviously, they are made of ice particles that cover a plant. In the places where the temperature turns minus, the plant's inside temperature doesn't decrease. This results in transpiration and a fragile formation.
Octopus can be giant or small, tasty or scary. On top of everything, they can also be one of the cutest things you'll see today. Presenting the Dumbo Octopus. We guess you all know how this species got its name. The best part is they are luckier than the real Dumbo, the elephant, who was forced into circus business.
Beluga whales are also known as the sea canaries for their soothing singing voice underwater. Also, their color and mystical shape made many sailors mistake them for mermaids. Belugas are different from the rest of the whales at several levels. This photo in some way did justice to those sailors' beliefs.
Scuba divers are mostly strong hearted people who aren't really scared of the world underneath the surface of the sea. However, this sight at the Oregon Undersea Gardens can scare anyone. This is a sculpture made to look real and give you the chills.
With a lot of distress, we've to say that this photo is not fake. This baby elephant got stuck inside a manhole. This is the saddest thing we've seen today. Mama elephant carries her baby in her womb over one and a half year making it the longest pregnancy recorded in any mammal. Seeing her baby in a manhole, this mother tried everything she could. We can only hope that the person who clicked this picture was a member of the rescue team or at least called someone to help the buddy.
In 1957, Krystina Pawlowski, a woman hunter came into limelight after she shot the biggest crocodile ever found by humans. The Queensland, Australia native was admired by national as well as international media. A 30-year-old beautiful blonde wearing a dark red shade of lipstick and khaki shorts killed the 28ft crocodile with one shot. After that, she had been nicknamed as One Shot and she made a place for her name in the Guinness Book of World Records.
Bear attacks are rare incidents but bear chasing humans like this was never seen before. As a matter fact, more people die of bee stings and snake bites than any attack by wild animals. We don't know what can provoke bears, in this case, it must have been the bike, right? We just wonder how even the person who clicked this photo got a chance to click it!
In 1976 movie "Rocky," Rocky Balboa aka Sylvester Stallone bought a pair of baby turtles from his girlfriend, Adrian. Recently, the actor shared his photo with the two turtles, Cuff and Link, who turned 44 years old. Many stories suggest that Cuff and Link will also appear in “Creed 2”. Also, Stallone took home a bull mastiff home from the sets of the same movie. Sadly, he died in 1981.
We have just one thing to say: Megalodon doesn't seem to be human-friendly. People often create hype about shark attacks when the reality is that humans' ratio of hunting sharks is much higher than sharks attacking humans. The fact that we are facing the consequences of entering their zones is mostly neglected. Anyway, getting back to the point, in a world dominated by humans, where sharks are an issue of debate, we doubt anyone would accept these giant 60 ft long and 40,000 pounds monster sharks.
We know you want us to say it but we won't. Because this is a real photo, not a fake one. Just like any hungry being, goats too would do anything for food. So, it's basically the tree that tempts the goats to take the risk of climbing. It is an Argania tree that is found in parts of Morocco and Algeria. Apparently, the nuts that grow on this tree are delicious enough that the goats wouldn't mind climbing the topmost branch of this tree just to have a bite.
For additional information: Goats are natural climbers, thanks to their strong foot. Plus, they are herd animals which means if one goat spots the tree and climbs it, the others will follow too! Now, take your time to get familiar with a tree full of goats.
Mount Vesuvius's eruption in the 79 AD became the main reason for the fall of the Roman cities that were under the rule of Pompeii and Herculaneum and buried them deep inside and mashed them into just another layer in the soil. Located in Italy, it is the only European volcano that has erupted in the last several decades. This mountain might've not found a significant place in our history books but in 1944, the eruption damaged 4 villages.
During World War II, the eruption destroyed many fighter Aircraft of the US army that was stationed closed to Terzigno. However, these B-25 bombers landed safely and got the chance to click this epic photo on their way to the lands.
On August 8th, 1996, near Russia's Kurilshoye Lake, Michio Hoshino, a 44-year-old Japanese-born photographer was resting inside his tent. reportedly, this is the last photo that the expert photographer clicked right before he was beaten to death by a bear. Although brown bears are not known to attack humans unless they are provoked or trying to save their cubs.
Dogs are not just best friends of their humans, they are also good boys to their companions. We don't know if it is friendship or cleverness to let a skunk eat first. Skunks, often known as stink badger spray a strong smelling liquid that is hard to be removed from the dogs' fur. This wise doggo chose to be patient than bearing with that stench.
During May 1898, this photo was clicked on the outskirts of Waynoka, Oklahoma City. Many people claim, that the two people in the photograph were storm chasing and the man who clicked this picture was a part of their team. Here's the interesting fact: The first acknowledged storm chaser, David Hoadley was born 40 years after this photograph was clicked! Hence, there's this most acceptable theory which is: these guys must be amateurs who loved to follow the vicious weather.
Hermit crabs live in water but are unique in their own way. They are not born with a shell of their own but living with a shell still remains in their nature. They look for a suitable shell to feel at home, it can be anything. As in the picture, this Hermit crab was able to find his home inside a human skull. As this crab is not fully grown it might have to find a bigger shell for itself as it grows.
A person shared the photo on his social media page and said: "Lightning inside a waterspout. Shot from the back of Kenny J, a sport fisher while on the way out to the reef to fish for snapper. Little Torch Key, mm 28 Florida Keys. It was noisy for a little while. The lightning was about a mile from the boat." What is your take on it?
So, this how it looks after a tornado, not always but possibilities are high. First reported in 1894 by William Clement Ley, this cloud formation is known as mammatus or mammary clouds. It is a result of cold air that falls on warm clouds which creates a pouch like formation. We won't take you much into the scientific details of it and will inform you of the important part- that such formations are usually considered deadly for the aircraft as it causes downdraft.
This is another moving photograph that we've come across today. A seagull fighting a bald eagle for the life of its mate. The bald eagles are predators and seagulls are one of their favorite meals. But these two seagulls, one in the eagle's clutches and other one attacking the eagle are an example of undying spirit. We've to tell you this heads down that we didn't find the result of this fight. We just hope both the seagulls were able to tell the eagle: "Not Today!"
The 1981's “Roar” is said to be one of the most dangerous movies to be made in Holywood till date. During the filming of this movie, more than 7o people got injuries by the wild animals that were in most of the movie scenes. Injuries included minor scratches as well as broken body parts. Some crew members were hurt. The movie starred Noel Marshall with his then-wife, Tippi Hedren as the lead actress with their daughter, Melanie Griffith.
Qizai is not any species but the only living being of his kind. He is the only living brown panda on this planet that the world knows about. Generally, pandas are black and white but this was born with white and light brown color in a Chinese forest. Sadly, his mamma panda abandoned him due to his abnormal color. Later, he was found by a group of people who took him to the Foping Panda Valley, China. Here, he is not bullied anymore and lives a happy furry life. The brown grizzly bear-like panda is now 7 years old and the caretakers are hoping that he would appreciate a female panda's company.
This photo grabbed a lot of attention when people started to see a mountain like formation in the clouds from the streets of Moscow. At first, it was doubted to be an edited photo but its 100% percent real.
This picture was clicked in 1996, shows his love for the reptiles. The Crocodile Hunter, Steve Irwin and his wife Terri were much more than ordinary zookeepers. They were famous for the work and progress they made as conservationists and educators. The 90s kid can never forget this brave man who impressed the worldwide audience by his work.
Sadly, the man died while recording a wild stingray on September 4th, 2006 when it struck its tail right through his chest. Irwin knew the risk that was involved in his work and yet he chose to do it. He once said: “I have no fear of losing my life – if I have to save a koala or a crocodile or a kangaroo or a snake, mate, I will save it.”
Atretochoana eiselti, is nicknamed as the *male organ* snake for the reason you know very well. Anyway, it's neither that male body part nor a snake. In fact, it's a limbless amphibian. For over a century, people only knew of this p***s snake which is, by the way, the largest tetrapod without lungs and was only believed to exist because of Sir Graham Hales who conserved two specimens in the late 19th century until it was rediscovered in 2011.
In the picture is a 20-foot wide, 5,000 lb. manta ray that was trapped in a boat's anchor line. To see a fish outside the river is saddening for us but this is the largest manta ray ever found. The International Union for Conservation of Nature put manta rays in the list of the vulnerable species. Reasons causing their deaths: pollution, fishing for Chinese folk medicine, and fishing nets. Sadly, this is not the only manta ray who died after getting entangled in the fishing nets as many others face the same fate every day.
Catatumbo Lightning is a specialty of Catatumbo River, Venezuela. This incredible lighting occurs from 140 to 160 nights a year. At times it occurs back to back for around 10 hours with more than 250 strikes per hour. The storm originates from the energy of the wind blowing across the Maracaibo Lake and other water bodies around the lake. The area is covered with mountains from three sides which the masses of air climb and gets charged electrically on the way. This region contains the most sustained lightning activity on our planet.
This is a post-snowstorm picture of a cell phone tower. Horizontal icicles are formed in the direction in which wind blows. The person you see standing on the tower is the one who has the job to fix the tower and make it work again.
At Chicago's coastline, this scene appeared and a photographer managed to get the perfect shot where more than one lightning can be seen striking at the surface of the lake. A result of perfect timing and location.
So here it is: In a fight between a King cobra and a python, both died. Python asphyxiates the cobra and the latter one bites the Python. As a result, both died. Must have been a deadly fight right there.
Sometimes, Lens-Shaped Clouds are visible from 60 miles distance. People aren't wrong when they misunderstand these clouds for UFOs. After all, they look like one. Lens clouds are results of air movements on the top of the mountain which disturbs the air flow. The moist air lets the water vapor to condense resulting in these flat round or oval clouds.
A 50-ft Blue ice monolith in the Antarctic is a mesmerizing view. Many websites claim this to be a tsunami wave that was frozen. Well, that's fake reasoning while actually it a blue ice phenomenon. This happens in the case of extremely thick ice and when the light tries to pass through it the red wavelengths are left out and only blue color can be seen.
A black jaguar is one of the rarest exotic breeds. Their fur is of rich golden color with dark black spots. Previously believed as a different species, scientists recently admitted that they just differ in color. No matter how beautiful they look, they are wild hunters. Never forget that.
Photographer Darren Pearson captured this perfect shot of a tree being struck by lightning. In this picture, the words of Ben Franklin seems to find their rightful explanation that lightning is nothing but electricity slicing from the sky.
Indeed cats are smarter than dogs. A white furry cat hiding smartly from two Doberman pinschers. Dobermans are great watch-dogs and yet cats are way ahead of them. We don't have to say much here as the cat's reaction is enough to explain everything.
This photo was taken in the Beaumaris Zoo, Hobart during 1910. Known as Tasmanian tiger and the Tasmanian wolf, was none of the two: wolf or tiger. They are now an extinct species. What caused their species to end must be spread of disease, domesticated dogs, hunting, and habitat loss.
In order to live every living organism fights for food. Once dead, any living organism is food for others. In this photo, two sea stars are fighting with a crab for their share of the squid's carcass. Sea stars might look peaceful to you but they eat snails, clams, barnacles, and sea urchins while open in the oceans.
In 1915, Sir Ernest Shackleton’s Trans-Antarctic exploration vessel ‘Endurance’ got stuck in shifting ice before getting crushed by the ice. Later on, it sank. The captain and his crew continued camping on the ice for 497 days. At last, they reached for the open sea in their life rafts and reached an inhabited island.
It will be a matter of seconds for a fully grown polar bear to kill a fully grown person. But this picture of a Soviet soldier offering food to a Mumma polar bear is just unbelievable. We know you want us to say it but this photo is not fake, in fact, it was clicked in the Chukchi Peninsula of the Soviet Union.
Morning glory clouds exist and make us feel that we have known nothing about this planet till date. Another one of the rarest meteorological phenomenon that only takes place in the southern region of the Gulf of Carpentaria, Northern Australia.
On May 4th, 1922, Austin, Texas was hit by a twister that later split into two tornadoes. This is considered as one of the most severe tornado disasters in Austin. Reportedly, 13 people were killed in Austin and 50 people were injured.
Tippy-ti-toe! Let's take a moment to count how many of them are actually there. Just look at them, what are these cute little fluffy creatures? It's an arctic rabbit and all we now wish for is to see them hop around.
Tornadoes, thunderstorms, and fire. We guess this what it looks like when all of these come together. This lightning didn't strike on land as it remained in the clouds, just giving a destructive view. By the way, it is known as air to air lightning.
This is the photo of more than one tornado forming through the same group of clouds. To make it even more dangerous, these twisters might get combined and cause a destructive twister.
Water and electricity are not good together. Such incidents when the two came into contact with each other cause the death of many marine animals. The US National Weather Service told that on an average, the lightning strike carries 300 million volts and 30,000 amps, which can easily cause the death of any person.
This photo is a perfect example of optical illusion. The straight lining of the river is the reason behind this. Also, the clouds contribute to it. Anyway, must have been nothing less of magic to see this in live.
Ball lightning is caused by some reasons we aren't aware of. Not just us but the scientists have no explanation for this. Ball lightning doesn't just disappear in a split-second. In fact, it is in the sky for a few seconds and leaves a strong sulfur smell behind after explosion.
Why the Ancient Egyptians made a big deal out of Giza and pyramids seems to make sense now. This is one of the beautiful sunset images of the pyramids, and how accurately it is formed keeping the sun's routes in mind.
Please keep your Batman thoughts aside as Not all bats are black. We are introducing you with Honduran white bats. They are furry instead of skinny, stay on the leaves of plants instead of dark areas, and are frugivore (eat fruits), not bloodsuckers. They are one of the six white bat species to be discovered.
Jellyfish are marine animals no brains, blood, and bones. They live in fresh as well as salty water. Jellyfish have evolved with some fascinating tricks. They can become bioluminescent by the use of a green fluorescent protein. No matter how tempting they look, it's better to maintain distance from them. They are deadly as their sting can cause irritation and in the worst case scenario, if its a Box jellyfish, it's venom can kill a group of people.
It's clearly visible that this is not an ordinary thunderstorm. This type come under the category of a supercell thunderstorm. Often occurring in South America, where people also know it by the name of Tornado Corrido. So far, the longest they have lasted is 4 hours.
Although Chile’s Calbuco Volcano is encircled in a National Reserve. Still to be on a safe side more than 1500 people were relocated during April 2015. The Calbuco volcano is located in a region known as the Ring of Fire. Over the past 11,0000 years, all the major volcanic eruptions took place in the Ring of fire except three.
Babies are like that, be it a human baby or an elephant baby. This baby elephant is throwing tantrums like a boss baby here. His mother standing by his side must be experiencing a hard time dealing with her kid. Isn't this photo sweet enough to make your day?
On one side is the fresh glacier water while on the other side, the water of the Gulf of Alaska. It takes time for the salty ocean water to mix with other kinds of water. So, this picture is true and reasonable.
This is one of the pictures that shows the drastic disturbance that humans are causing in wildlife. Bears often barge into backyards and playgrounds that are close to the forests. Bears are curious by nature and love to explore their surroundings and this young guy seems to be waiting for his mommy.
Stormy weather isn't required for water spouts as they can originate on the water surface and whirl towards the clouds. As soon as the water spout is formed, a funnel cloud starts to appear. They are the first step of the cumulus clouds. They do not travel very far as they are formed when the wind is low.
Formed in specific temperature conditions, these snow donuts are very special. Well, there's a possibility that you'll still choose a regular donut over these and that seems perfect to us. When a heap of snow falls from the mountain or is blown by the wind, causing a snowball. Well, this case is special as the middle portion of the snowballs collapsed resulting in a 26 inches (66 cm) tall donut.
Their name is quite misguiding as this phenomenon has nothing to do with either fire or rainbow. The first condition that is necessary for the formation of fire rainbows is that the sun should be at least 58 degrees above the lands, the second condition is that cirrus clouds carrying plate-shaped ice crystals should be in the sky. The refraction makes it look like the clouds are on fire.
Fire whirls or fire devil or fire tornado, are the very rare and unnatural concept. Yet they are part of nature. It happens when the flames come in contact with a tornado. It mostly occurs in the cases of fire bushes.
We give you a chance to guess what it is. Okay, we can't keep it inside anymore. These are trees of the Finnish Lapland area where the freezing weather and snow winds are normal. What might look like scary statues are actually life-givers.
Sun dogs will always appear in a pair. Looking like they are encircling the sun. They are the result of light refraction. In case, they are brighter than they are in this picture, it will give you a feel like you are looking at three suns at the same time. It will normally occur at a time when the sun is low in the sky.
A Skypunch or a punch hole cloud is formed when the temperature of the water goes below the freezing rate. However, the water is unable to freeze because of the lack of ice-nucleation particles. The forming of the ice crystals creates a domino effect, due to the Bergeron process, which will cause the evaporation of the water droplets around the crystals leaving a huge and mostly round hole in the cloud.
These formations are not man-made. They are the result of the lava flowing through the cracks and cooling down in a perpendicular direction to the primary flow. Columnar basalt clusters are spread worldwide. People even climb them.
First of all, we are not making you look at a picture upside down. The spiky region you see in this picture is known as penitentes. Every piece is almost 4m tall. Such structures generally appear in the high-altitude regions like the glaciers of the Andes mountains. Sometimes, when the sun is bright enough on the top of the glaciers, it causes the ice to evaporate. well, this formation leads to even faster and wider evaporation.
This amazing phenomenon appears during winters ( -20°C or lower) in the sky of the big cities. It usually occurs when the atmosphere is filled with teeny tiny ice crystals and low speed or no wind at all.
Hessdalen Light is one of the countable things that occurred on this planet but our scientists have no explanation for it. It started in the year 1982 when these lights started to appear in the sky at least 15 to 20 times/week. For another two years, it kept on appearing with the same rate. Nowadays the unexplained Hessdalen lights appear from 10 to 20 times each year.
Spiders generally leave the eggs but wolf spider is different from the rest of them. Wolf spider, unlike other spider species, carry the eggs on its back. The baby spiders stay on their mother's back until they are big enough to hunt for their meal. So, this is a close up photo of mama spidey carrying her baby spideys on her back.
What's a huge ice spike doing under water? Okay, time to read it attentively if you want to understand the concept of Brinicles. It occurs in the north and south poles when the salty seawater gets collected under the frozen sheet of water. What makes this water sink is the fact that it's not only cold and salty but also denser than the fresh water and the sea water underneath it. This mixed brine then starts to sink passing by the seawater. On its way to the bottom of the ocean, the freshwater too freezes by the cold salty water resulting in a large icicle under the surface.
Earthquake lights only existed in tales for the scientists until 1965, when someone clicked a picture and it was no myth. Discovered during the Matsushiro earthquake, Japan the seismologists around the world finally admitted its existence. So far, they are unable to explain the earthquake lights and call the reason for its cause as "an unknown mechanism."
Beautiful colors we must say! This species of sea slug thrives on the coasts of South Africa, Europe, Australia, and Mozambique. Make sure you don't step on this little guy otherwise he might die and we'll be really sad in that case!
Is this guy a fox? Or is this a wolf? Can any of the two turn out to be so tall? Let's be honest before you try to guess that the meaning of maned wolf is a golden dog. This is the only species in the genus Crysocyon.
You aren't the only one who feel confused about these weirdos. It's quite tricky to tell it and many people actually think its a cross between a deer and a zebra! Let's add one more species to increase this confusion; giraffe. Okapi is also known as forest giraffe, Congolese giraffe, and zebra giraffe. Well, they are so incredible that Congo made them its national animal.
This creature might look a bit offbeat to you or maybe you find them resembling it with the feline friends. Some might say they look similar to bears yet again they are quite unique. Fossas are found on the island of Magadscar. Make all the guesses you can because Fossas are closely related to Mongoose!
This photo of a whirlpool was clicked several years ago. So, this rotating water can speed up and looks like a hole in the water. This can be strong enough to take a massive ship down. The most adequate term for it will be a vortex.
Another picture from Egypt is not of the sunset but of night light. We live in the Milky Way galaxy. And we can't say with surety that image is authentic. But thinking about the image for a moment makes it worthy of this list, right?
This weirdo is a star-nosed mole. They can be easily identified, thanks to their twenty-two pinkish tentacles-like organs. Don't know why but this is reminding us of octopus. This star-like organ is known as Elmer’s organ. They live in northern areas of North America and prefers to stay in wet regions.
This is the photo of a spider's foot under an electron microscope. It helps them to go beyond the science of gravity and find their way back to their webs.
So, now the people facing Arachnophobia have one more reason to be afraid of spiders.
