TITANIC! No ship in this world has gathered as much fame as this one did though it journeyed only for once. What fanned its popularity, even more, was David Cameron's picture that starred Kate Winslet and Leonardo Dicaprio. We all love that movie but at the same time, we know that the flick was more of imagination than reality. The ship shown in the movie no doubt is incredible but is nothing in comparison to the real one. Here, Titanic is setting off make its maiden journey. The date was April 10, 1912. Many people had gathered to see this remarkable ship setting off from the port of Southampton, England. Little did anyone knew that this was also going to be the last journey not only of the ship but also of its passengers. The family of passengers waved their last bye to them.
The night took a devastating turn when the giant ship collided with an iceberg. The night that was transitioning from April 14th to April 15th changed many fates. As no one from the crew had any idea of the threat, they were not prepared for it. Many attempts were made by other ship captains to send the presence of iceberg in the middle of the ocean and ship's way. Unfortunately, no words reached the captain.
The unsinkable Titanic was designed with the resistance to four flooded compartments. However, there were six compartments that got damaged on that unfortunate night. Hence, the enormous ship could not help but sink.

England’s coast, Millbay Docks, Plymouth welcomed those who managed to survive the shipwreck. Not to mention, they all looked extremely tired and their faces clearly were expressing their inner state. Some of them still could not believe what they just had experienced.
White Star used to be a prime shipping company whose popularity raised during the end of the 19th century and starting of the 20th century. The company had half of the Titanic in its possession. George M. Cohan who was an American entertainer can be seen in this picture with a bundle of unique copies of a journal. This picture was taken on a Sunday in New York. He was selling those copies only to collect funds in order to provide financial assistance to the rescued passengers and their kin.
Help poured in from all over the world. A baseball match was organized between Yankees and Giants. This was done to financially assist the affected family. Interestingly over 14,000 people attended the event.
When the Titanic sank ship Carpathia came to the rescue of drowning passengers. Many people survived the harrowing incident, thanks to Arthur Henri Rostron the then captain of the ship. So, the survivors made a great plan to show their gratitude to the captain. In May 1912, they awarded him with a silver cup.
Funeral services of those who died in the adversity were performed in New York in Seamen’s Church Institute. Many people attended the funeral with moist eyes and expressed their grief over the loss of so many innocent lives.
Some died and some remained in people's memory even after their death. There was a couple onboard who did not leave each other even when calamity struck them in its most brutal way. Isidor and Ida Straus preferred giving up their lives over each other. So, this memorial was built to celebrate their love and dedication towards each other.
